Sutent mechanism of action

Sutent mechanism of action refers to how the drug produces its specific action in the body. It has already been discussed that, the concerned drug inhibits the factors promoting the growth of tumor, which makes it a targeted therapy drug. To explain further about targeted therapy, in order to understand Sutent mechanism of action, it is worth mentioning that targeted therapy is such a chemotherapeutic course that involves interfering with certain target molecules, which directly participate in promoting the growth of tumor. • Vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs).
• Granulocyte colony stimulating factor receptors.
• Platelet derived growth factor receptors (PDGF-Rs).

So, in this way sutent works to inhibit the growth of tumor tissue by antagonizing the above mentioned receptors, which not only helps repress its growth but also causes antiangiogenesis.

Since, sutent directly targets some specific molecules or factors; sutent mode of action is targeted chemotherapy. In targeted chemotherapy, the drug instead of making a generalized action, directly acts on the factors that are principally involved in promoting the growth of tumor, identifies them and finally eliminates them.

After all that has been said about the mechanism of action, Sutent kinase relation can be well understood. The drug under discussion is metaphorically the enemy of this prime tumor promoting factor, the kinase. Whenever the drug comes in contact with a tyrosine kinase, the activity of the later is inhibited and the growth of tumor is suppressed. However, in addition to its action on kinases, sutent is also found to be inhibiting the KIT (CD117), which is likely to be encouraging the growth of gastrointestinal tumors. So, it is now well understood how this medication participates in cancer treatment or at least betterment of patients condition.

In addition to the healthy effects this drug brings forth on cancer patients, there may be considerable chances of producing adverse effects on the patients. The possible side effects will be discussed later on; however, for now well be discussing some very common and concerned category of side effects, which is brought forth through sutent thyroid interaction. As mentioned, this drug basically discourages the process of cellular growth in tumor tissue. Now along with the tumor tissue, cellular growth may also be suppressed in other healthy tissues of the body such as thyroid. And when this happens as a result of sutent thyroid interaction the ultimate consequence would be hypothyroidism, which may further lead to other severities.
