Pegasys (Peginterferon alfa 2a) Treatment Indication :

Treatment of previously untreated chronic hepatitis C in adults.

Patients must not exhibit hepatic decompensation and chronic hepatitis C must be confirmed by the histology and serum markers (elevated transaminases anti-HCV antibodies HCV RNA).

Pegasys Pegasys ( Peginterferon alfa 2a ) is indicated for the treatment of histologically proven chronic hepatitis C in adult patients with elevated transaminases and who are positive for serum HCV-RNA including patients with compensated cirrhosis.

The optimal way to use Pegasys in patients with chronic hepatitis C is in combination with ribavirin.

This combination is indicated in previously untreated patients as well as in patients who have previously responded to interforon alpha therapy and subsequently relapsed after treatment was stopped.

Monotherapy is indicated mainly in case of intolerance or contraindication to ribavirin.
